Queensborough Community College - Performing Arts Center

Lead Architect

Lead Architect and Project Manager (Goshow Architects)

As Lead Architect for this project while at Goshow Architects, LLP, I directed the design and renovation of the 850-seat Queensborough Performing Arts Center, a vital cultural hub offering live theater and musical performances to the communities of outer Queens. Originally constructed in the 1970s, the facility had fallen into disrepair, with outdated systems, poor acoustics, limited accessibility, and a generally “shabby” appearance. The goal was to transform it into a fully modern, accessible, and technically capable venue within a limited budget.

The redesign reimagined both the interior and exterior, addressing all functional deficiencies while creating a visually striking new identity. The auditorium’s walls and ceiling were enveloped in folded, copper-colored perforated metal panels that integrate acoustic treatment and indirect lighting, producing a warm, glowing atmosphere described by the college as “the Radio City Music Hall of Queens.”

The completed project received the 2024 Queens Chamber of Commerce Rehabilitation Design Award and the 2025 SARA Design Award of Honor.
